Hole #1
A fairly gentle opening hole. The tee shot plays to a 60-yard wide fairway that doesn't narrow for all but the longest hitters. A left pin is well guarded by the deep greenside bunker, but a generous bailout area is provided to the right of the green for the conservative player. Enjoy this hole, as the test is about to toughen dramatically.

Par 4 420 Black 389 White 349 Gold 301 Red

Hole #2
There is much more to this hole than just water that borders the left side. Playing into the teeth of the prevailing wind, the difficulty of this par five increases substantially, as three big blows are needed to reach the putting surface. On calmer days, the golfer must choose to play his second shot to an upper or lower fairway. This is an important decision due to the severely sloped green, for which this hole is named. Portions of the green only receive approach shots from a particular angle.

Par 5 555 Black 529 White 495 Gold 440 Red

Hole #3
A classic short risk/reward par 4 hole. For big hitters, the peninsula green may be driven with a chance for eagle. For those not electing to gamble, the fairway is dissected diagonally by a meandering creek. A lay-up to the right fairway is the safe play, but requires a more precise approach. The left fairway may be reached with a wood to long iron. The further the drive up the left side, the more accessible the pin becomes.

Par 4 315 Black 299 White 278 Gold 245 Red

Hole #4
The first par three of the round features a wide but shallow putting surface. Club selection is key here. Although short yardage, hole four requires a complete carry over the pond to the green. Be wary of keeping your ball beneath the tree line from the tee, as the wind will easily knock it down and you will find the hazard.

Par 3 156 Black 123 White 121 Gold 84 Red

Hole #5
Despite its length, the hole is playable due to the lack of fairway bunkering, wide fairway and open approach, and protection from the wind from the wooded wetland that borders the left side. The green is pitched from back to front to receive longer approaches, but stay below the pin to get down in two.

Par 4 454 Black 425 White 364 Gold 317 Red

Hole #6
A long driver will be rewarded on this hole with a terrific view of what lies ahead, and an opportunity to knock it on in two. The shorter hitter will still be able to get home in three, but will face a blind second shot. Because the perched green is defended by four devilish bunkers and runs slightly away from the fairway, be sure to position your ball to attack the green with a comfortable club that can loft the ball high with plenty of spin.

Par 5 507 Black 481 White 429 Gold 388 Red

Hole #7
Named for the commanding views of the entire layout from the tee complex, the shot is played from one of the highest elevations on the property. The green is large but sits at a diagonal from the tee. The front-right bunker sees a great deal of action as a result of the green positioning. Stay below the hole to prevent a three-putt.

Par 3 198 Black 180 White 165 Gold 139 Red

Hole #8
This severe dogleg right begins by playing through a narrow chute of trees. Play to what you see, as trouble lines the inside of the dogleg. The generous fairway narrows as the hole spins around an enormous fairway bunker. The graceful putting surface is protected with a small front bunker, and a large rear bunker that is out of view. As long as you find the fairway you have an excellent opportunity for a birdie.

Par 4 392 Black 374 White 331 Gold 280 Red

Hole #9
Perhaps the most difficult hole on the course. The tee shot again plays through the narrow chute of trees to a bowled fairway. The green is a tough target with a severe ridge that bisects the putting surface. Two excellent swings and a solid short game are required if you wish to end the front side with a par.

Par 4 449 Black 428 White 328 Gold 308 Red

Hole #10
The back nine begins with this long, stern par three. With water up the left side and a bunker to the right, a smart miss is short of the green in the wide approach. Stay beneath the pin for a makeable putt. If you've scored a three on this hole, you've earned it.

Par 3 224 Black 200 White 158 Gold 139 Red

Hole #11
Beware of the additional bunker beyond the ridge by aiming your tee ball just right of the small mound at the inside of the dogleg. The second shot must avoid the water to the right of the fairway. Three bunkers guard this rather small, humpbacked green. Give yourself comfortable yardage into the green, as the approach shot is the key to success on this hole.

Par 5 545 Black 516 White 480 Gold 432 Red

Hole #12
Longer hitters may have an advantage on this 90 degree dogleg right. A large bunker bisects the landing area forcing an important decision from the tee. If you are able to carry the bunker, a shot approach is your reward. If not, the tee shot must be played to the left or short of the bunker. The green sits at an angle with an open approach to the right.

Par 4 397 Black 361 White 319 Gold 270 Red

Hole #13
Be sure to take enough club on this tee shot. This uphill shot to a plateau green generally plays into the wind. Because it is such a difficult target, number thirteen will test many golfers' short game, particularly bunker play.

Par 3 188 Black 155 White 132 Gold 119 Red

Hole #14
This hole features a generous landing area, but perhaps the most difficult approach of any shot on the golf course. A large bunker fronts the deceptive green that falls away on all sides. Be careful not to over-club as the water channel runs directly behind the green. A smart play may be to bailout to the right and rely on a chip and a putt for your par.

Par 4 402 Black 377 White 341 Gold 303 Red

Hole #15
The fifteenth is the type of dramatic hole that sits in the back of the golfer's mind during the entire round. Although only 148 yards long, the challenge here is to trust your swing and place your tee shot on the putting surface. Water, which defends three sides of the green, and a bunker guarding the fourth make this a difficult task. A birdie may definitely be made, but be wary of a left pin position.

Par 3 150 Black 140 White 116 Gold 103 Red

Hole #16
Despite the immediate carry over the channel from the tee, the bowled landing area will accept all but the poorest tee shots. Once in the fairway, an elevated and well-bunkered green awaits. No tricks to this hole, just a long and tough par four, especially if the wind is up.

Par 4 433 Black 403 White 357 Gold 286 Red

Hole #17
The difficulty of this hole is often underrated. An extremely wide fairway awaits the lay-up tee shot. A driver may leave just a flip-wedge, but the fairway narrows significantly, with water running down the entire left side. Don't let the water intimidate you too much, however, because the angle in to the green from the right rough is difficult. Trust your yardage into the green.

Par 4 353 Black 329 White 298 Gold 258 Red

Hole #18
If your competitive match is still alive by the eighteenth, you will surely enjoy the many options that are created by the water channel that meanders across this hole twice. For the timid, a short lay-up is provided for the tee shot. The braver player may bite off as much as he dares by playing up the left side of the fairway. From there, another decision must be made. The channel again bisects the fairway just 65 yards from the green. A lay-up second shot is played to a generous fairway, but the opportunity for eagle will be gone. Enjoy the view of Upland's beautiful clubhouse as you complete your round.
